so heres a little success that im quite happy about in my garden....
A couple of years ago, whilst living in Hastings, we planted a few veg as 'see what happens' kind of thing....included were a few cabbages in the hope we would be able to eat them...they were decemated by the caterpillar of the Large White....much to my wifes chagrin at the time....since then she has started being much more wildlife friendly (though still has a way to go but im fighting the fight), its also helped that our little boy is growing and has a few books about caterpillars and lovely stories of watching them grow and turn in to butterflies....so with this in mind when we moved here to Pembury we determined to plant some cabbages to encourage more butterflies, even if it was only Large Whites...so they arent the most exciting butterfly out there, so anyone gets them in their garden....but we say...so what......just when we had given up the idea of any caterpillars turning up....hey presto....!!
...there they were....a few different sizes but plenty of them....a success story for us...we are happy....the caterpillars are happy...and obviously the butterflies were happy....
Its probably helped that the cabbages are sited under a buddleia which has attracted Red Admiral, Peacock, Comma, Tortieseshell, Meadow Brown, Spotted Wood, Gatekeeper too...
