Peppered Moth, Biston betularia
You will probably recall from this blog last year these moths come in three morphs, so hopefully I will catch all three again this year. This is the usual 'morph' to catch and the one I have seen most since I started trapping. The other two darker morphs, insularia and carbonaria are only seen where there have been high levels of atmospheric pollution but are in decline as this 'adaptation' (read Charles Darwin Theory of Evolution) by nature isnt really needed any more due to our much cleaner air.
Heres a really smart looking moth to catch with its refined yellow hilites.....
Alder Kitten, Furcula bicuspis
This next one is just about as fresh as they come...May to July flying season....
Pale Mottled Willow, Caradrina clavipalpis
Last spring I managed to catch 5 Cockchafers, Melolantha melolantha, in one session....but today that record was well and truly broken.....11...here are 6....
the sociable....
