Ring!

The usual repairing of mist nets continues, so as one was furled i opened it for a little while to see if I could catch anything passing through the garden.....

There has been a Blackbird couple around the garden for a few weeks now, nesting in next doors scrubby hedge.  The male watches regularly from our gate post as the female goes in.  They must have chicks by now and waiting to see them out on the lawn soon I hope.  Both the adults have been ringed by me.  Occasionally another male Blackbird is seen in the garden and the inevitable chase ensues....

Other birds I caught this time round....Dunnock....

rather bright amber looking eye....

....and a totally black bill....

Chaffinch...heres the male and he is regularly in the Hazel tree in my other neighbours garden and regularly on the lawn.....however....

he didnt get a ring due to this calcification of the leg....

this seems to affect Chaffinches quite a lot and eventually leads to the leg
being of little use as the bird will not be able to bend knee or ankle.....

I also trapped a Goldfinch, another bird that is hanging around and I am guessing is breeding in the immediate area....
