Another Hawk moth....Eyed!!

A couple of nights mothing efforts (not that its much effort at home, all I do is set the trap, turn the light on and go to bed....easy) and some nice moths to show for it....a brand new Hawk moth for me...a real treat....so here it is....

I tried to get it to show its 'eyes' better but no luck and im not in to making them suffer by continual prodding, but I think these pictures are great and its a nice moth to see.

More excitement....
Blotched Emerald

Yet another new moth, Blotched Emerald.  Hopefully these will be a common moth in the trap over the years.  Its always nice to see new moths in the trap though I havent got a tick list.  There are ceertainly some moths I would like to see, not all large macros either, some of the micros are the more colourful.

The Flame

I recently put up a picture of Peppered Moth showing it to be one of the darker forms, insularia.  Here again is insularia, but this time much darker all over.  Peppered Moth has been quite abundant in my trap where as previously I caught them occasionally where I used to live in Hastings.  There is obviously a much larger population locally and also a good population of the darker form.

I will have to check my old records, but this may well be another new moth for me.  I have caught Silver Y moths regularly at various sites.  Im sure many people have witnessed the almost 'mass' invasion of the Silver Y moth during daylight hours as well, when there can be hundreds on show all at once.  This, however, is Beautiful Golden Y.

I think ive put Willow Beauty on here before, but I thought I would repeat it as in the same catch was a rather nice specimen, very similar, Mottled Beauty.
