More night time monsters....and some moths,.....

As it was such a nice day, despite what the man from the Met Office said....I thought I would have another go with the moth trap....so far its been very slow....im beginning to think that maybe Autumn is better for moths than Spring/Summer as last Autumn when I put the trap out a few times I had reasonable catches, so far this year its been pretty poor, with around 10 at a go....!....not good....however, I wont complain too much as the pond continues to produce such good stuff....in the meantime here are a couple of very impressive 'monster' beetles....

One of the Sexton Beetles, this one is Nicrophorus humator

Cockchafer, Melolantha melolantha

And some moths....of which there are some fabulous looking ones, though not all, somewhat like the butterfly world....but I think they are fabulous and have managed to get several other people trapping and recording them for the biodiversity records....if you dont run a trap now, start....make your own trap and buy in the lights...and its so easy, switch it on, go to bed, get up and empty the trap....you dont even have to be there to watch it...

A Dagger species, you can only genuinely tell via the genitalia which one of the species it is.....so I leave this for others, im not in to disecting them, I would rather let them go...

Waved Umber, fabulous looking, large and a real treat

Pale Tussock, one of the 'hairy' looking ones that creeps people out

Purple Thorn, trying to get people to understand that moths are beautiful...is so difficult....or is it?!
